Dodgy downloads is child's play

Almost 1 in 5 kids using the Internet are doing so completely unsupervised

Looking at adult websites, gambling and shopping fraudulently are just some of the things kids have been caught doing online. The potential for children to misuse the internet, and risk their own safety in the process, is huge as new research shows that a third of parents are leaving their children online unsupervised for at least 4 hours a week.

Almost one in five parents in the UK say their children are spending more than 10 hours using the internet every week and the same number again admit they are doing so completely unsupervised. According to a new survey commissioned by The TechGuys, this has led to a third of parents feeling concerned about what they may find, what they might download and even more worrying who they might meet online.

With parents across the country preparing for the Easter holidays and impossible task of trying to keep an eye on what their child is doing, concerns are bound to increase. For a long time being at home in front of the computer has been seen as a safer place for kids to be alone than playing outside. However, as in any other area of life, if you don't know what your children are doing, where they're going or who they're mixing with in the virtual world, you risk compromising their safety.
