Subatomic is a new science series on East Coast FM. It is for young people and those interested in taking a closer look at how science affects our everyday lives.
With a new topic every week Subatomic will take you on a 12-part adventure to discover some of the unusual, interesting, odd, quirky and bizarre elements of the scientific world.
Throughout the series, we look at subjects like Forces, Sound, Plants and Animals, Sea and Marine Creatures, Space Exploration, and Inventors and Mad Scientists. You'll hear interesting facts and stories from a range of people including well-known weather broadcaster Gerald Flemming, Astronomy Ireland's David Moore, Plant and Animal expert Eanna Ni Lamhna, beloved storyteller Eddie Lenihan, ex-Liverpool footballer Craig Johnston and NASA Astronaut Joe Edwards. Subatomic will also visit some exciting locations from Mondello Park, the home of Irish motorsport to Dublin Zoo, the home of some fantastic animals and exotic creatures; we delve into the world of electricity deep inside a Wicklow mountain, go flying with the Irish Air Corps at Baldonnel, skydiving with the Irish Parachute Club in Co. Offaly and stargazing in the valley of Glendalough National Park. Join presenters Linda Geraghty and Gavin Lynch on Subatomic as we jump out of planes, electrify science teachers, explore the Wicklow Mountains, contemplate time travel, and generally have good fun, all in the name of science.
To hear Subatomic, tune in to East Coast FM 95/96/100 & 103fm every Sunday at 10.25am or log on to www.eastcoast.fm to listen online.
