Slieve Aughty Centre's school tours programme strives to bring children back in touch with the natural world through experience and close contact with nature.  Programmes such as Natural Wonders and Eco-Logic stimulate children's senses and a respect and love for nature, thus creating a care and concern for the environment that we hope will follow them into their adult lives. The equestrian programmes create a similar experience for the animal world, supporting children in developing a bond with ponies and horses that hopefully leads to a desire to consider the welfare of animals and their habitat as adults. BALLYHASS LAKES MALLOW Hidden in the heart of Munster is a children's wonderland, with something to thrill everyone who is young at heart.
Ballyhass Lakes Mallow is a 36-acre venue boasting some 20 activities and is just one hour's drive from Cork, Limerick, Killarney, Tralee, Fermoy, Midleton, Mallow and Tipperary.
On arrival in the woodland retreat, children can be kayaking on the crystal-clear sheltered spring water lake within just 20 minutes!
A day's outing will typically include four complete activities, including kayaking, rock climbing, archery and bouldering in the indoor arena.
Schools can opt for their own personal preferences but head instructor Alex Stephens says this usually includes at least one water-based activity, either kayaking or raft building, with a minimum age limit of eight years.
Equally popular with teachers, all pupils are closely supervised in small groups by expert instructors. Teachers are free to take part in activities but are just as welcome to enjoy relaxing in the teachers lounge and use of one of the on site holiday homes, as soon as the pupils' half hour lunch break is over.  Ballyhass Lakes are happy to have just two teachers attend with any size group, but there is no upper limit to the number of accompanying staff and no charge applies to them.

Pupils are asked to bring their own packed lunch, as well as a change of clothes and shoes. Lunch can be taken in the indoor arena if the weather is inclement. Snacks, sandwiches and drinks are also available from the site shop. All wet suits, life jackets, safety helmets and harnesses are supplied by Ballyhass.

In addition to the activities on offer, Ballyhass has just introduced a Fitness assessment module where pupils are put through a physical test for strength, physical mobility and body mass relative to their peer age group. At the end of the session, each pupil also receives a printed assessment of their level of fitness. There is full information and comprehensive teachers guide available on www.ballyhasslakes.ie
