Prim-Ed Publishuing makes learning Irish lighter in every sense of the word
A leading book publishing company is to provide light relief for primary school pupils who are physically and mentally burdened by the way they currently learn Irish.
Prim-Ed Publishing has launched the first ever, comprehensive Irish workbook series for third, fourth, fifth and sixth class pupils. They can now work on their grammar, spelling, reading, writing and comprehension in a fun new workbook series which will make learning more fun. It also cuts out the need to have multiple books and copy books, de-clutters their desks and eliminates bulk from already overweight school bags.
The initiative follows hot on the heels of a new and renewed interest in the Irish language, spurred in no small way by the positive work of comedian, Des Bishop, and his ‘In the Name of the Fada’ series as well as Taoiseach, Brian Cowen’s promotion and use of our native tongue since taking office.
Des Bishop has already called for a complete change in the way Irish is taught. Prim-Ed is championing the way, making learning fun. “People, particularly of the generation of the people in the Dail, they have bad memories of the way Irish is taught in School,” Des Bishop said.
“I’m hoping to have a meeting with Batt O Keeffe, to discuss my other main issue. I don’t think the curriculum needs to be improved. I think it needs to be revolutionarily changed. With not actually that much effort we could completely change the way that Irish is taught in School.”
Prim-Ed’s Gaeilge Le Cheile workbooks are a series of four, colourful activity packed Irish workbooks dedicated to pupils from Third to Sixth class, according to Prim-Ed Publishing’s managing director, Seamus McGuinness. “The colourful series features fun, age-appropriate activities for pupils.
“Each workbook is split into 36 units which build on a pupil’s competence in the language. They will work with their teachers to complete one unit of work for every week of the school year. Each workbook features fun activities such as crosswords, puzzles and easy to follow illustrations. They have been developed by teachers, for pupils and their teachers,” he added.
