Dyslexia
Hello all.
New to this site but I just wondered if any other parents have a child/ren who has dyslexia.
My son is 8yrs and has just had the test in school, the results were that he has mild dyslexia. He can read but he struggles alot with his handwriting and memory.
If anyone has any ideas or advise on how I can help my son it would be appriciated.
Thanks.

I know how you feel, my daughter was diagnosed a couple of years ago and finds reading hard, but be kind, gentle and let them take their time, she is 9 now and last year found she could enjoy books, although not all the words, but enough for her to understand the stories and she loves reading anything. It does come in time, just takes longer - you need to ensure your school are suppportive as ours are.

Dear Julie, I can totally relate to your story as our 8 year old has just been diagnosed with mild dyslexia too. His teacher just thought he was being lazy but as parents we thought otherwise so had him tested privately. He has no trouble reading but has difficulty with his writing and memory. I'm not saying that our boys are identical but there are certainly some similarities there! I was given a very comprehensive report following his assessment along with numerous suggested ways to help him. Computer progams and private tuition were amongst these. Is there anyway you could get your address to me so I could send you a copy? In the meantime try www.dyslexia.com. All the best, Christine. PS if anyone could recomend a good tutor in sussex please could they let me know?
